Carrollton man dies after being shot by deputies

A Carrollton man died Friday afternoon after he allegedly attacked Isle of Wight County deputies who were trying to serve warrants on him.

Deputies entered the home in the 23000 block of Tara Court to serve the 20 outstanding warrants on James William Wallace, 31. The warrants were for eight misdemeanor counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and 12 felony counts of uttering.

Wallace allegedly attacked the deputies with a knife and was shot, according to a news release from spokeswoman Kristin Wilda. He was transported to Riverside Hospital in Newport News, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing. Sheriff Mark Marshall has requested that the Virginia State Police conduct a criminal investigation of the shooting and report their findings to the Commonwealth’s Attorney. Additionally, there will be an internal investigation of the matter for purposes of policy and training.
