Suffolk man dead in Portsmouth shooting

A Suffolk man died early Tuesday morning after a shooting on Carol Lane in Portsmouth, police said.
The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Elvis Cornell Ricks of Suffolk’s Freeman Avenue. Portsmouth 911 operators received several calls of shots fired in the area of Carol Lane and Allard Road around 1:11 a.m., Portsmouth Police Department spokeswoman Detective Misty Holley said.
Officers found Ricks with a gunshot wound to the head, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives still are investigating the incident. Anyone who has information is asked to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers to Crime Line never have to give their names or appear in court, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
