Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week.
- Jaclyn Mounie, sophomore for Nansemond River High School field hockey: After she and her team struggled in a tough 2-1 season-opening home loss to Grassfield High School, the squad that also ended the Lady Warriors’ 2012 season, she helped her team rebound later in the week, scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory over Great Bridge High School.
- Summer Parker, senior for Lakeland High School field hockey: The 2013 season was only 15 seconds old when she scored the Lady Cavaliers’ first goal in a 6-0 victory over Great Bridge High School on Monday. She turned in a hat trick on Wednesday in a 9-0 win over Indian River High School, bringing her career total of goals scored to 99.
- Addison Peak, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football: He led the Saints’ offensive attack on Friday, carrying the ball eight times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. The scoring runs were for 52 and 60 yards, as NSA went on to win 40-16 against host Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School in Dumfries.
- Deshaun Wethington, sophomore for King’s Fork High School football: He helped the Bulldogs kick off the season by running 11 times for 176 yards and a touchdown on Thursday during a 50-6 win over Deep Creek High School.
