A Hampton church is inviting the public to the grand opening of a new satellite campus in North Suffolk next Saturday.
Liberty Baptist Church, whose main campus is on Big Bethel Road in Hampton, will open a 600-seat satellite facility in the Bridgeway Technology Center at 7025 Harbour View Blvd.
According to a flier, the event will involve food, fun and games from noon until 3 p.m., with a ribbon cutting beforehand.
Starting Sept. 8, Sunday services will be held at 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. The Harbour View Campus Pastor is Chris Deitsch.
“We believe that we are called to Harbour View for a purpose: to change lives, communities, and the world for the Gospel,” the church website states.
Announcing the Harbour View plans in a sermon at the main campus last year, Grant Ethridge, Liberty’s senior pastor, said the church is driven by urgency to reach the multitudes.
“It is nothing new,” he said. “It’s what the early church did. They didn’t meet at one location; they met throughout the area.”
Ethridge, who lives in Suffolk, touted the benefits of the site as plentiful parking, proximity to Interstate 664 and an array of nearby restaurants and stores for after-church meals and shopping.
“It’s just a dream,” he said of the site. He added the church has about 600 members from the North Suffolk area and has had about 700 first-time guests from the area in the last year alone.
