Virginia State Police were continuing to search Thursday night for a missing aircraft in the Great Dismal Swamp and surrounding areas.

At 4:15 p.m. Thursday, state police were requested to assist with the search for the aircraft that failed to reach its destination — the Hampton Roads Executive Airport.

The aircraft was a Cessna and was coming from Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Aerial search efforts have been suspended due to the weather conditions, but teams continue to search on foot and by boat.

The search was being assisted by the Civil Air Patrol, Tidewater Search and Rescue, Chesapeake Fire and Rescue sand state park rangers.

Anyone with information about the aircraft or who recalls seeing a small plane in the area of the swamp is asked to contact Virginia State Police at 1-800-582-8350.
