Police investigate shooting

Suffolk police are investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning.

The victim, 26-year-old Christopher B. Copeland, of Suffolk, was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Dispatchers received notification about 2:48 a.m. about gunshots in the 1700 block of Freeney Avenue, according to a city press release.

Officers responded to that location and were notified of a subject who had been shot and was inside a vehicle in the 100 block of South Fourth Street.

The victim was reportedly struck by a bullet as he sat in the backseat of a vehicle, according to the release.

No other information was available Saturday afternoon.
