Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Logan Eubanks, sophomore for Nansemond River High School swimming: He became the first swimmer from Suffolk’s public schools to win a regional championship, taking first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.34 seconds, more than three seconds faster than the nearest competitor. He has also qualified for states in four other events.
  • Deonta Knight, sophomore for Lakeland High School basketball: He led his team to a landmark 55-47 win against crosstown rival and host King’s Fork High School on Thursday. He led all scorers with 23 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds, was a key 6-for-6 from the free throw line and got his teammates involved in the game.
  • Amesha Miller, freshman for King’s Fork High School basketball: She helped her team to another undefeated week with some strong performances. In a 79-55 road win over Denbigh High School on Tuesday, she recorded a team-high 20 points and 14 rebounds. She led all scorers with 16 points to go with eight boards in Thursday’s 63-23 road win over Lakeland High School.
