Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Taylor Roten, sophomore for Lakeland High School softball: She went 2-for-3 and hit an inside-the-park solo home run during Friday’s 7-1 victory over visiting Indian River High School..
  • Trevor Riggs, senior for Nansemond River High School baseball: After highly regarded host Great Bridge High School had crept to within one run, 3-2, in the sixth on Friday, he hit a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh, leading to a 5-2 win.
  • Mitchell Williams, freshman for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball: He led his team’s offensive push on Friday in a 12-1 win over host Tidewater Academy. He went 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in.
