Sophomore Megan Blythe had never been known for her home run hitting when she was a softball standout at King’s Fork High School, but now at the college level, it’s becoming her trademark.

On Wednesday, she recorded her fifth homer of the season for the West Virginia University Institute of Technology Golden Bears. It came during the first half of a doubleheader against host University of Charleston. The Golden Bears lost both games.

WVU Tech is having a difficult year, currently holding a record of 2-15, but Blythe has excelled nonetheless.

She also played a significant role in helping her team get those two wins during a doubleheader against visiting Ohio Christian University in the latter half of March. She went 6-for-6, with three runs batted in, a stolen base and two home runs in what might have been the best doubleheader of her career. The Golden Bears won 12-4 and 14-10.

Blythe is also statistically WVU Tech’s top offensive threat. Recorded through the first 13 games of the season, she has team-leading stats that include the following: a .462 batting average, 18 hits, nine RBIs, 12 runs scored, an .846 slugging percentage and a .511 on-base percentage.

The Golden Bears visit Salem International University on Monday.
