Suffolk firefighters work to free a man who wrecked his car on Godwin Boulevard on Thursday.

Emergency crews had to extricate a man from his vehicle Thursday afternoon after he crashed into a ditch on Godwin Boulevard.

The accident happened at 3:35 p.m. near the intersection with Harrell Drive. The 58-year-old man driving a Chrysler 300 was traveling westbound when he left the roadway and crashed into the ditch. After he was removed from his car, he was ground transported to Sentara Obici Hospital, from where he was later airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
