The Lakeland High School girls’ volleyball team struggled in its straight sets loss to visiting Nansemond River High School on Tuesday, though it did close the gap with each game.

“Our execution was poor tonight,” said Lady Cavaliers coach Tarijuana Napoleon. “That is definitely something that we have to work on.”

Lakeland’s standouts were sophomore Demari Turner, who had six kills, and sophomore Makayla Byrum, who had four kills and three aces.
