The King’s Fork High School golf team only recently started earning a spot on the final scoreboard in its matches, after developing four eligible scorers, but now it has taken another huge step forward with its first win of the season.
The Bulldogs showed substantial improvement in the process of defeating Indian River High School 376-392 on Thursday at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course in Portsmouth.
“The team dropped 75 strokes from their past scores,” King’s Fork coach Calvin Mitchell stated in an email.
Will Crow led the Bulldogs with an 84 and was closely followed by Noah Rose, who shot an 85. Stephen Shaffer recorded a 101, and Hunter Simpkins registered a 106.
King’s Fork will be preparing for the Ironclad Conference tournament taking place Sept. 29 and 30 in Newport News.
