Lady Cavs show winning toughness

Lakeland High School’s girls’ basketball team is off to a 2-0 start this season after a pair of two-point wins.
“There are still a lot of things that we have to iron out, but this team has a lot of heart, and more than I was expecting,” Lakeland coach Brandey Blunt said.
The Lady Cavaliers defeated host Great Bridge High School on Tuesday by a score of 49-47.
Lakeland freshman Brianna Copeland led her team with 12 points, junior Brianna Lynch had 11, freshman Kayla Barnes had eight, junior D’Jannay Patterson contributed seven and sophomore Alasia Lee chipped in six.
At home on Monday, the Lady Cavs edged out Warwick High School 42-40 after starting the game down 12-0.
Lakeland trailed 22-9 at halftime and 31-24 at the end of the third quarter. Then, the Lady Cavaliers scored twice as many points as the Lady Raiders in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.
Copeland scored 16 points, Patterson recorded 13 and Barnes added 10.
Lakeland (2-0, 0-0) hosts Indian River High School on Friday.
