Cavaliers rebound, decimate Hawks

The Lakeland High School boys’ basketball team shook off Tuesday’s 20-point loss to cross-city rival King’s Fork High School with a 92-43 demolition of visiting Hickory High School on Thursday.
Junior forward Deonta Knight and junior guard Qurante Budd led four Cavaliers scorers in double figures as they produced 12 points apiece. Junior forward Damonte Ricks scored 11 points, and senior guard Kenya Latham added 10.
Lakeland senior guard John Scott had seven points, and six of his teammates scored six points apiece: senior forward Irvin Ashburn, junior guard Daquan Boyette, junior forward Kayonta Brown, senior forward Larry Everret, freshman forward DeAndre Faulk and junior guard Mikel Knight.
The Cavaliers generated 33 assists, and Deonta Knight led the way with seven, Mikel Knight had five, Latham and Ricks each had four, Everret and Scott each had three, Boyette, Brown and Budd each had two and senior guard Terry Mitchell had one.
Ashburn, Brown and Ricks led Lakeland in rebounding as they had five apiece. Deonta Knight and Faulk had four apiece.
Lakeland (4-3, 1-1) will return to the court on a big stage as it faces Woodside High School at the Norfolk Scope on Friday as part of a Christmas tournament.
