Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

Keith Stagg, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: He was outstanding during a 3-1 stretch for the Bulldogs. On Dec. 13, he aided a 96-77 home win over Hanover High School with 20 points, eight boards, seven assists and three steals. In Thursday’s 72-56 road win over Nansemond River High School, he had a game-high 23 points, plus 13 boards, five steals and four assists.

Josh Covington, junior for Nansemond River High School basketball: Despite his team’s losses this week to talented teams in the Southeastern District, he persisted as a consistent scorer for the Warriors. In Tuesday’s 94-62 road loss to Oscar Smith High School, he still managed a team-high 22 points. In Thursday’s 72-56 home loss to King’s Fork High School, he had 20 points.

C.J. Patterson, senior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy basketball: He was a leader for his team throughout the NSA Holiday Classic. In Saturday’s 51-39 win over Denbigh Baptist Christian School, he produced 24 points and seven rebounds. Despite Friday’s 50-42 loss to Broadwater Academy, he still led his team with 12 points and added eight rebounds.
