King’s Fork High School senior pitcher Sydney Wash put on a clinic in both Thursday’s home game against Hickory High School and Friday’s road game at Western Branch High School, but it was the Friday game that yielded the result she and the Lady Bulldogs wanted.
The talented Lady Bruins fell to King’s Fork 1-0 on Friday.
“She won it offensively and defensively,” Lady Bulldogs coach Richard Froemel said of Wash.
In the circle, she threw nine strikeouts and allowed only two hits, and at the plate, she doubled in the fifth inning to score junior Kay’Lee Justice. Wash ended up going 2-for-3 for the game.
King’s Fork senior Kirsten Wuchter went 2-for-3, while junior Susan Mounie and sophomore Mallory Moore had one hit apiece.
On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs fell to Hickory 5-2 in 10 innings.
“Sydney took a lot of that game on her shoulders, and she really felt bad about it, and she wanted to come out tonight to prove a point,” Froemel said on Friday evening.
Wash had uncharacteristically given up two home runs on Thursday, but she still held the talented Lady Hawks scoreless for six innings and finished the game with 14 strikeouts.
King’s Fork (4-5, 0-1) visits Indian River High School on Tuesday, hosts Ocean Lakes High School on Wednesday and Lakeland High School on Thursday.
