Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Kiera Rountree, junior for Lakeland High School track and field: She was a standout performer in multiple events on Wednesday in the fourth Southeastern District meet of the outdoor season. She won the triple jump with a 33-foot, 3.5-inch result, took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.37 seconds and took 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.77 seconds.
- Trey Small, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy baseball: He was fantastic at the plate on Friday afternoon, helping fuel the Knights’ 11-0 road win against Williamsburg Christian Academy. He went 4-for-4, hitting two doubles.
- Lindsay Ransome, senior for King’s Fork High School soccer: She made crucial contributions at both ends of the field on Tuesday that led to the Lady Bulldogs’ 1-0 upset of visiting Western Branch High School. She scored the game’s lone goal in the first half. Later, an injury to a teammate made it necessary for her to take over as center defender, and she helped hold the Lady Bruins scoreless.
- Brayan Morales, junior for Nansemond River High School soccer: He was an important offensive contributor to the Warriors’ 2-0 run this past week. In Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over host Deep Creek High School, he scored two goals, and he scored one of his team’s goals in a 2-0 home win against E.C. Glass High School on Friday.
