Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
Damontra Milteer, junior for Lakeland High School football: Though the Cavaliers have struggled to win this year, he has emerged as a bright spot, and he continued to establish that status on Friday night. His team fell 48-7 to visiting Indian River High School, but he energized the Cavs with a touchdown run from near midfield that tied the game 7-7 late in the first quarter. He had 75 yards rushing on the night.
Paige Summers, junior for King’s Fork High School cross country: She helped her regionals-bound team take second in the Conference 17 championships by taking fourth overall individually in the girls’ 5,000-meter run on Tuesday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. She achieved fourth by finishing in 21 minutes and 30.21 seconds.
JeVon Waller, sophomore for Nansemond River High School football: He had an impact for the Warriors in all three phases of the game on Friday night, contributing to their 59-18 victory over host Grassfield High School. He scored a touchdown on a two-yard run, helped set up a 21-yard Warrior field goal with a 45-yard kickoff return and capped a crucial defensive stand with an interception in the end zone.
