The Lakeland High School boys’ basketball team took the road on Friday and defeated Grassfield High School 63-47.

The Cavs held a 15-3 advantage exiting the first quarter, and while the Grizzlies matched Lakeland’s offensive output in the second quarter, that still left Grassfield down by 12 at halftime, 30-18.

The Grizzlies’ deficit grew to 18 points by the conclusion of the third period when the Cavaliers led 45-27.

Lakeland senior guard Daquan Boyette scored 21 points on the night, while senior forward Deonta Knight registered 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Cavaliers (6-2) participated in a tournament on Saturday at I.C. Norcom High School. They will return to the court in the new year, hosting Indian River High School on Jan. 5.
