Player of the Week Nominations

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

Brianna Copeland, sophomore for Lakeland High School basketball: In Wednesday’s 61-55 Blue Division championship, an overtime win against Hampton High School during a Christmas tournament, she scored all 17 of her points in the final six minutes of play. In the same tourney, she had 22 points in a Tuesday win and 18 points and six boards in a Monday win, earning the tournament MVP honor.

Camary Harris, sophomore for King’s Fork High School basketball: She demonstrated consistency at both ends of the court to help her team win the Silver Division championship in a Christmas tournament and improve to 10-0 on the season. After averaging 10.7 points, 6.3 assists and 4.7 steals across three wins in the tourney, she was named tournament MVP.

Josh Covington, senior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He returned from a two-game absence due to concussion protocol on Monday and helped the Warriors achieve their first victory ever at the Norfolk Scope under coach Ed Young. He led all scorers with 20 points in a 62-58 victory over First Colonial High School during the Norfolk Scope Holiday Classic.
