Kenneth L. Thames Jr.

U.S. Air Force Airman Kenneth L. Thames Jr. graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Thames is the son of Kara Hill of Suffolk, grandson of Jacqueline and Tyrone Whitaker of Durham, N.C., and nephew of Antonio Homles of San Antonio, Texas. He is also the brother of Lyric Thames.

The airman graduated in 2015 from Riverside High School, Durham, N.C.

 

Antonio Winegan

U.S. Army Pvt. Antonio Winegan has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Winegan is the son of William Winegan of Suffolk and brother of William Winegan of Chesapeake and Tiara Winegan of Portsmouth.

He is a 2015 graduate of Western Branch High School.
