State track meets begin

Nansemond River, King’s Fork and Lakeland high schools are participating in their respective state meets and here are some notable finishes on the first day on Friday.
For King’s Fork, Armani Urbanski placed fourth in the high jump. Nasir Davis placed 11th in the 55-meter dash prelims. Bryan Walker placed 10th in the triple jump. Asia Rawlings finished fifth in the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 7.52.
For Nansemond River, Jevon Waller placed third in 55-meter dash preliminaries. Asia Crocker placed fifth in the high jump finals. Syaira Richardson placed third in 55-meter dash prelims. Jazmine Tilmon and Kori Carter placed third and fourth in 55-meter hurdle prelims. Jasmine Watson and Skylar parks were fifth and sixth in 55 meter hurdles.
For Lakeland, Garrett Whitley finished eighth in the shot put finals. The 4×800 relay team placed eighth. Darren Daughtrey and Alphonso Randolph placed second and ninth, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdle prelims. Loren Biggs placed fourth in the long jump finals.
