‘Dogs down Hornets for third time

King’s Fork High School’s baseball team got its sixth win of the season on Friday, defeating Deep Creek High School 9-5.

The Bulldogs went on the road to face the Hornets Friday, after previously hosting them on Tuesday. Both games were wins for KFHS.

Deep Creek took a 1-0 lead in the first inning Friday. In the second inning, the Bulldogs drove in four runs, giving King’s Fork a 4-2 lead. The Hornets made a strong run in the fourth inning to tie the game up at 5.

After both teams had gone scoreless in the fifth inning, the Bulldogs totaled four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take the win.

“We competed well,” Bulldog Blake Sargent said. “Everyone stayed focused on the game the whole time and got the job done when we had the chance.”

Ricky McCleod and Mason Brown had pitching duties for the evening. They combined for 11 strikeouts. McCleod was awarded the win. Chris Allen had a solid game for the Bulldogs, going 3-4, with two runs and two RBIs.

It was the third time King’s Fork has defeated Deep Creek this season.

King’s Fork is now 6-7 and will face another Conference 17 opponent in Great Bridge High School on the road at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
