Cavs defeat Hopewell

Lakeland High School’s baseball team defeated Hopewell High School on the road on Wednesday.

The Cavs won their second game in a row this week by a score of 9-4. In their two games this week, the Cavs have outscored opponents 29-6.

Cavs coach David Devers said he wanted to see his team improve on its Tuesday win and his players rose to the challenge.

Hopewell took the win during the first meeting of the two teams, but Lakeland regrouped and had a good performance on the road.

The game was tied 1-1 until, in extra innings, Lakeland drove in eight runs in the eighth inning.

John Cooke and Demonta Hawkins had pitching duties. Hawkins earned the win and also 2-3 at the plate, with two runs and four RBIs.

Lakeland will play I.C. Norcom High School today at home at 5:30 p.m.
