Bulldogs get first win

The Bulldogs baseball team got its first win of the season at home Tuesday evening.
The King’s Fork High School baseball team has kept its legs moving and bats swinging over spring break. King’s Fork hosted La Salle Academy out of New York Tuesday for some spring break action. The Bulldogs got their first win of the season 10-4 showcasing their offensive firepower. King’s Fork put up three runs in the first inning to get things started against La Salle.
“It felt good,” Coach Robert Hedrick said. “We got our first win, so it was awesome. They were a very good team, and it was some good competition.”
The Bulldogs put up their biggest inning in the sixth, when they scored five runs. Hedrick was pleased with the way the team played, even though he felt they could have hit the ball a bit better. He did like how his team was able to play situational ball and tack on runs late in the game so that they could extend their lead.
“We finally got some clutch, and I think that was the difference,” Hedrick said. “We have had opportunities all year long, but we could never find that big hit that gave us that good feeling. We got some good timely hits against La Salle, and it was good to see that.”
Aiden Gay went 2-4 with two runs scored Tuesday afternoon. Noah Floyd went 1-4 with one run scored and four RBIs. Both Gay and Floyd handled pitching duties as well, with Gay striking out seven and Floyd striking out two.
Every year under Hedrick, the Bulldogs have played in games over spring break. It is a good way for the team to stay in rhythm before the season starts back up with district play. With the Bulldogs finally getting their first win, they appear to have good momentum.
“Sometimes just getting a win makes you feel good, and it can change everything for everybody,” Hedrick said. “Now that we got that taste of winning now we like, we can keep making it happen.”
