In a battle between two rivals, the Lady Bulldogs came out victorious.

The King’s Fork High School softball team didn’t play as well as they hoped for, but it was enough to defeat rival Lakeland High School. They earned a 4-3 victory over Lakeland, which extended their three-game win streak.

Cali Hinnant had a big game for King’s Fork, striking out 14 batters. King’s Fork had three hits as a team, with Hanna Williamson totaling three and Madison Froemel adding three as well.

King’s Fork scored two runs in the first inning and added on their lead, with Lakeland striking a slight comeback. Last Saturday, the Bulldogs faced both Salem High School and Norfolk Collegiate and took both games. Add in the Lakeland win, and King’s Fork is feeling good about where they are despite not playing as well as they hoped.

“That shows me that they have fight in them,” Coach Richard Froemel said. “They didn’t get down on themselves. Going forward, we just have to make sure we are capitalizing off of the little things.”

Froemel hopes the Bulldogs can continue their win streak but also strengthen their play against Indian River High School at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Lakeland will face Kecoughtan High School at home at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
