Players dominate games all the time, but on Friday night the term gained new meaning for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s football team.

Though the team put 54 points on the board, there was one guy who stood out amongst the rest. Shaun Faulk rushed for 341 yards and five touchdowns and added an interception as the Saints shut out the winless Greenbrier Christian Gators.

The Saints’ homecoming win leaves them at 3-5 on the season.

“I was just in my zone,” Faulk said of his performance. “Most importantly, though, we got the win to get our confidence back up. This will help us finish the season strong.”

“Shaun had a huge game for us,” Saints’ quarterback Robby Tew said. “That was a big win for us and to see that performance out of one of our best players really pumped everyone up.”

Coach Mike Biehl was proud of his team’s effort and the way they competed Friday night.

“I always say anytime we are in front of our home fans and can get a win is always good for us,” he said. “To win in the fashion we did was great.”

Nansemond-Suffolk scored all 54 of its points in the first half, 28 of them in the first quarter. Three of Faulk’s five touchdowns came in the second quarter. NSA totaled 599 yards of total offense, with 541 of those being rushing yards.

Aside from Faulk’s 341 rushing yards, senior Keshaun Moore rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown. Tew added a passing and a rushing touchdown. Ehron Knight had 66 all-purpose yards, including an interception. The defense put up a shut-out for the first time all season.

“We have to carry this momentum into next week,” Biehl said. “We have a huge game against Atlantic Shores. Everyone will say we won’t have a chance. However, looking back at this performance knowing that we can score from anywhere on the field, we will have to use to our advantage.”

The seniors were able to enjoy a win in their last game at Arthur E. Jones Athletic Field.

“Every week we rely on our seniors to bring the energy,” Biehl said. “They did just that on the field against Greenbrier Christian.”

“I just took in everything that was going on,” Moore said of his final home game. “I was focused on winning the game, and that’s what we did.

NSA will be at Atlantic Shores at 7 p.m. on Friday.
