Gabby Infranco was voted Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week after hitting two home runs last week.

Infranco and the Lady Saints have gotten off to a hot start this season. At the start of her sophomore season for the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Lady Saints softball team she has been piling on stats in multiple categories. She has over five runs to go along with nine RBIs and two home runs, which she has credited to the extra work she has put in at practices and her teammates.

“I feel like everything we have been practicing has come together,” she said. “My hard work is definitely paying off. My team is always very encouraging, and we push each other to be the best we can be on and off the field.”

NSA is a talented team with a goal of making it to and eventually winning the state championship after coming so close in the last couple of seasons. Though they know how good they can be, they take things one game at a time, and it starts with always being at their best for their teammates.

“I love being a part of this team,” she said. “We like to focus on the game that we are in at that particular moment. We don’t think about the state title all the time, but it is definitely motivating, and I would love for that to happen with my team.”

The sophomore described starting off the season with two home runs as amazing. Including scrimmages, she has three, which has boosted her confidence at the plate. To prepare for this season, she worked on her swing and her fielding. She feels better about her start this year in comparison to her start last year as a result of her hard work.

“She is extremely dedicated and does not like to fail,” NSA coach Brittany Thornburg said. “She constantly puts in extra hours outside of our practices. This honor is well deserved.”

Infranco doesn’t have any specific statistical goals in mind she wants to reach. She just wants to do the best she can every game and be the best teammate she can be. Every chance she gets, she is always being supportive of her teammates. Her teammates motivate her every day she wants to give her best to be beneficial for the team.

Her father is a big inspiration to her and has always pushed her to be the best that she can be every day. She says that she would not be where she is right now if it were not for her father.

In her spare time, Infranco could be seen singing and playing the guitar. NSA will be back in action again at home against Kenston Forest Academy at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
